Anne-Marie Whiley

I am a self taught artist and came to painting later in life, after exploring photography, musical theatre and acting, anything where I could express myself creatively. When I had the time, after having my two sons, I returned to painting which I had experimented with during high school. As a child and teenager, I mostly sat in my space at home , drawing and writing poetry as my way to find solitude.

I grew up in Sydney and spent most weekends with my 7 sisters and my brother. From a young age we all swam constantly. We spent so much time with our parents either swimming at Northbridge Baths or having morning adventures to Freshwater beach. Here I developed my life long love of ocean pools.

I now live with my family on the northern beaches of Sydney. I paint everything and anything depending on my mood and what colours and images are filling my mind. My creations draw inspiration from the strength and emotional layers of women. I love to express a sense of connection and relaxation through figures drifting through the water or existing surrounded by flowers and colour. The joy of everyday life. My paintings range from contemporary figurative women to vibrant abstracts, focusing on energy rather than realism.

I use music and emotional energy to immerse myself while I paint, combining various mediums to create colour led, multi-layered paintings that celebrate beauty and warmth. I often work on multiple paintings at a time.

My hope is that by hanging my paintings you will live with beauty and warmth in your home. I love designing unique artworks for individual spaces.
